ANTI-RAGGING CELL

Anti-Ragging Cell should be an important part of the machinery of the educational institution. As per the guidelines of UGC under the Act of 1956 which has been amended as UGC Rules, 2009 to prevent the menace of ragging in higher educational institutions, establishment of Anti Ragging Cell is very mandatory.

OBJECTIVES OF ANTI RAGGING CELL

Anti-Ragging Committee will be the supervisory and advisory committee to preserve the culture of ragging free environment in the college campus. The main objectives of this cell are as follows:

  • To create awareness among students about the inhumane effects of ragging and its maladies.
  • Constantly monitor ragging so that its occurrence and recurrence can be prevented.
  • To deal promptly and sternly with incidents of ragging that come to our notice.
  • To create an environment of discipline by sending a clear message that no act of ragging will be tolerated and no act of ragging will go unnoticed.

As per the order of the Supreme Court of India and subsequent notification of the University Grants Commission, ragging is done by any student or group with any intention of doing one or more of the following:

  • Any act of indiscipline, teasing or behaving rudely.
  • Any work which prevents or disrupts regular educational activity.
  • Any activity which is likely to cause irritation, difficulty, psychological harm or to cause fear or apprehension.
  • Any act of financial extortion or forced expenditure.
  • Any act of physical abuse that may result in assault, harm or danger to health. Any act of abuse by spoken words, email, SMS or public insult etc.
  • Any act prejudicial to human dignity or violating any fundamental right.
  • Wrongful confinement, kidnapping, molestation or unnatural offences, use of criminal means, trespass or any act of intimidation.
  • Any illegal assembly or conspiracy of ragging.

Punishment for those found guilty

Any student or group of students found guilty of ragging whether on or off campus will be liable to one or more of the following penalties:

  • Debarring from appearing in any state examination/university examination.
  • Suspension from attending classes or from educational privileges.
  • Withdrawal of scholarships and other benefits.
  • Suspension from college.
  • Cancellation of entry.
  • Withholding results.
